[Public Video Art Proposal]

The idea- simple

The installation- technological

The content- renewable

I propose the installation of several glass covered, networked, all-weather-proof, LCD video monitors into the new sidewalk streetscape planed for the Brazos St. district. By doing so I hope to expose the public to a wider section of video art and its curation, meanwhile generating a frequently renewed interest in the district. New video curations could ‘open’ as often as possible [6-8 weeks] coupled with event promotion and reoccurring press promises to perpetually bring visitors and patrons to the area. Local, regional, and national guest curators insure diverse selections and delegation of maintenance. This system would be fully manageable via Internet, meaning the curation can be done from almost anywhere.

Assimilation: Possibilities include national calls for entry, pairing with SXSW Film Festival, Austin Film Festival, and local filmmakers for public screenings, etc.

Collaboration: Assembled for the project are artists, curators, filmmakers, audio/video technicians, contractors, and architects.

Flexibility: As I am not fully familiar with the plans for the district I am flexible with the placement of these installations. My hope is that the necessary modifications will be incorporated into the current plans and smoothly created in the initial reforming of the streetscape.

Future: Should I ever have a leave of absence as head curator of the project; a comprehensive database of videos could be created and looped, another head curator appointed, or surrounding corporate businesses could facilitate them for eye popping advertising! [excuse my humor]
